Elon Musk has been in talks for a long time for Tesla’s entry in India.
Elon Musk’s company Tesla Inc., which manufactures electric vehicles (EV), is going to enter India next year. Tesla’s deal with India is in the final stages. Bloomberg has given this information in one of its reports. Recently, Elon Musk had also said that he is planning to visit India next year.
India will allow this American EV company to import electric vehicles in the country from next year and set up a manufacturing plant within a period of two years. It is expected to be officially announced at the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit in January. Tesla can develop its infrastructure in Gujarat, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.
The report says that Tesla is planning to initially invest about $ 2 billion, i.e. about Rs 16,000 crore for the new plant in India. They also plan to buy auto parts worth up to 15 billion dollars, or about Rs 1.2 lakh crore, from India. The company is considering manufacturing some batteries in India to reduce costs.
Piyush Goyal visited Tesla’s manufacturing facility
Recently, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal visited Tesla’s manufacturing facility in California. However, company owner Elon Musk was not present during this period. He wrote in an X post- ‘It is an honor to have you in Tesla! I am sorry for not being able to come to California today, but I look forward to meeting at a future date.
While sharing the photos, Piyush Goyal wrote on Goyal said- ‘Missed the magnetic presence of Elon Musk and I wish for his speedy recovery.’

During the visit, Piyush Goyal met the Indian engineers working there.

Musk did not come here due to his unwell health, Goyal was shown the factory by the officials.
Musk met Prime Minister Modi in June this year

Last year there were no talks between Tesla and the government
Last year, Tesla had expressed its desire to come to India, but talks could not be reached between the company and the government. Tesla had demanded the government to reduce the import duty on fully assembled vehicles from 100% to 40%. The company wanted its vehicles to be considered electric vehicles and not luxury, but the government had said that other countries There is no intention to waive or reduce the import duty on any electric vehicles imported from India. The government had said that if Tesla commits to setting up a manufacturing plant in India, then exemption on imports will be considered. However, Musk wanted that cars should be sold in India first, after which the plant would be considered. Responding in a tweet on May 27, 2022, Elon Musk had also said, ‘Tesla is not planning a manufacturing plant at such a location.
