The Supreme Court on Tuesday (21 November) reprimanded Baba Ramdev’s company Patanjali Ayurveda. This rebuke has been issued for publishing misleading claims and advertisements against modern medical systems.
The Indian Medical Association had filed a petition regarding this against misleading advertisements. The bench of Justices Ahsanuddin Amanullah and Prashant Kumar Mishra issued a strict warning to the company during the hearing.
Misleading advertisements must be stopped immediately
Justice Amanullah said- ‘All such false and misleading advertisements of Patanjali Ayurved have to be stopped immediately. The court will take any such violation very seriously and can impose a fine of up to Rs 1 crore for each false claim on a product.
Patanjali should do such advertisement in future also
After this, the court directed that Patanjali Ayurveda will not publish any such advertisement in future and will also ensure that such casual statements are not made by it in the press.
Court wants to find real solution
The bench said during the hearing that it does not want to make this issue a debate of ‘Allopathy vs Ayurveda’ but wants to find a real solution to the problem of misleading medical advertisements.
Next hearing will be on 5 February 2024
The bench told Additional Solicitor General of India KM Nataraj that the central government will have to find a viable solution to deal with the problem. The next hearing on this matter will be on 5 February 2024.
