Suicide Case: Team India had to face defeat in the final match of the ICC World Cup 2023 played between India and Australia last Sunday (19 November). Due to this, there was disappointment among the cricket fans. At the same time, two such cases were reported from West Bengal and Odisha in which two 23 year old youths, hurt by the defeat in the finals, allegedly committed suicide and committed suicide.
According to news agency PTI, officials say that two people allegedly committed suicide in Bankura, West Bengal and Jajpur, Odisha after India’s defeat to Australia in the final of the Cricket World Cup. Police sources said that a youth named Rahul Lohar (23) committed suicide near the cinema hall in Beliatore police station area of Bankura at around 11 pm on Sunday night.
Took leave from work and watched the match
According to him, Uttam Sur, a relative of Rahul, told that he worked at a clothing shop in the area and had taken leave on Sunday to watch the final match. Sur said that he hanged himself in his room after being saddened by India’s defeat to Australia. Police said Rahul’s body was taken to Bankura Sammilani Medical College and Hospital for postmortem on Monday morning and a case of unnatural death was registered.

Meanwhile, in Jajpur, Odisha, police said that a 23-year-old man, identified as Dev Ranjan Das, was found hanging in his house in Binjharpur area soon after the match on Sunday night. A relative of Das said that he was suffering from “emotional disorder” and was undergoing treatment for it. The family member said that Das was very dejected after India lost the match. Jari outpost in-charge Indramani Juanga said, “We have registered a case of unnatural death and are waiting for the postmortem report.”
