Union Minister Nitin Gadkari launched Bharat NCAP at an event held in Delhi on 22 August.
From today, only the Indian agency will decide how safe the cars running in the country are. For this, the Indian agency Bharat New Car Assessment Program (Bharat NCAP or BNCAP) is going to start crash testing of cars.
Till now, auto maker companies have registered about 30 models of cars for testing. However, no official information has been given as to which vehicle will be crash tested first.
Union Minister of State for Road Transport Nitin Gadkari launched BNCAP at an event held in Delhi on August 22. After this, on September 18, the Command and Control Center was inaugurated at the Central Institute of Road Transport (CIRT) located in Chakan, Pune.
Crash test will be done as per the norms set according to Indian conditions.
Here, the agency will crash test the cars as per the norms set according to the Indian conditions and give them a safety rating. In this test, cars will be given a rating from 0 to 5 stars. 0 star means unsafe and 5 star means completely safe.
Currently, GNCAP and LNCAP used to decide the ratings.
Earlier, foreign agencies Global NCAP (GNCAP), Euro NCAP (UNCAP), Australian NCAP (ANCAP) and Latin NCAP (LNCAP) used to test Indian cars as per their standards and give them safety rating. In many ways this rating does not fit the Indian conditions, hence the Central Government has started its rating system BNCAP.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari launched Bharat NCAP at an event held on August 22 in Delhi.
Testing is 75% less expensive than local agency.
Gadkari said, ‘Under Bharat-NCAP, the vehicle testing cost in the country will be around Rs 60 lakh, whereas at the global level this cost is Rs 2.5 crore. This means that now companies will have to spend 75% less on getting testing done from a local agency.
What will be the benefit of India NCAP?
This will give customers the option to choose a car with better safety. Also, competition among companies will increase to make safe cars in the country. They will not even have to send their car abroad for testing.
You can see the results of crash test on the website
The Center has formed a monitoring committee. It will analyze the testing of BNCAP. BNCAP will show star rating and test results on its website only after getting the approval of the monitoring committee.
