Gradually all the countries have announced their teams for the ODI World Cup 2023. But till now the fans were waiting for the announcement of the Sri Lankan team. But now the Sri Lanka Cricket Board has announced its squad for the World Cup. 15 players have got place in this team. One player has been included in the team as a traveling reserve. However, one star player is not in the Sri Lankan team, which has dealt them a big blow.
Star players out of Sri Lankan team
Star all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga has been dropped from the Sri Lankan team. Hasaranga is still recovering from the hamstring injury he suffered during the Lanka Premier League playoffs. The 26-year-old player had to miss the Asia Cup due to injury. Dushan Hemantha has been included in the team in his place. The Sri Lankan Board has announced its 15 players for the ICC World Cup 2023 shortly before now. Dasun Shanaka has been made the captain of the team, who was already handling this responsibility.

Apart from this, the players who have been given a place in the team also include Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Zenith, Dimuth Karunaratne, Charith Asalanka, Dhananjay D’Silva, Sadira Samarawickrama, Dunith Vellalage, Kasun Rajitha, Mathisha Pathirana and Lahiru Kumara. Chamika Karunaratne has been included in the team as a traveling reserve.
The team entered the Asia Cup finals twice in a row, but fell short of winning the title. The team once won the World Cup title in the year 1996 under the captaincy of Arjun Ranatunga. The team had reached the finals in the 2011 World Cup, but Team India did not let the dream of winning another title by defeating them come true.
