The matter of delay in disqualification of 16 MLAs including Eknath Shinde was heard in the Supreme Court on Monday. The Supreme Court expressed displeasure over the functioning of the Assembly Speaker. On the other hand, Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar has said that he did not delay the disqualification hearing. Narvekar also made it clear that we will present our official stand after receiving the copy of the Supreme Court order. Speaking to journalists in Mumbai after the Supreme Court hearing, Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar clarified his position. There will be no delay in the MLA disqualification hearing. The legal process will take place as per rules. Basically, there is no information about what the court said today. He said that he will present his official side after reading the court order.
“Everything will be as per the rules”
Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar further said that it is not possible to say how much time will be taken to disqualify the MLAs. But whatever is done as per the rules will be done. Sunil Prabhu, Ajay Chaudhary of Thackeray Group are verifying the documents. Narvekar also said that this is his right and he should confirm it. He also said that everything will be investigated in the Legislature as per rules and action will be taken.
What did the Supreme Court say?
We did not put a limit of three months while giving instructions regarding disqualification of MLAs. However, the Chief Justice instructed Assembly Speaker Rahul Narevekar that the Supreme Court’s directions should be respected. Also, the next hearing in this regard will be held after two weeks.
