How to Register on Goods and Service Tax: Any person who wants to register for Goods and Services Tax (GST) must fill the GST REG-01 form. GST REG-01 form can be filled online and it is completely free. GST REG-01 form is divided into two segments Part A and Part B. For registration in GST, both parts will have to be filled completely and correctly. Without this, registration in GST cannot be completed.
These documents will be required for GST registration
For registration in GST, CIN number, company formation documents etc. will be required.
Memorandum and Articles of Association or Partnership Deed, LLP Deed etc.
Address of the head office of the business or NOC letter for using the office, etc.
List of Proprietors of the Company, all Partners, Managing Director and Full Time Directors, Members of the Company Board etc., along with their identity proofs like Passport/PAN Card/Aadhaar etc.
Name of the person officially signing for the company, residence details, Aadhaar and PAN card.
Registration will have to be done here
Step 1: Visit the GST portal- https://www.gst.gov.in/ and click on the Registration button in the ‘Services tab’. After this click on New Registration.
Step 2: This is Part-A of GST REG-01 form. The information to be filled here is like this.
The box ‘I am a’ contains a drop-down menu that shows several options. Here click on Taxpayers or Tax Collectors or Tax Deductors in the options. After this click on all the required boxes and fill the information.
Legal name of the business (as given in the PAN.)
The GST portal will send different one-time passwords (OTP) to the individual’s email ID and mobile number. After filling all the information, click on ‘Proceed’.
Step 3: A new webpage will open and it will ask for OTP sent to the email address and mobile number. Once the OTP is input and verified with the portal, click on the ‘Continue’ button. After this another new webpage will open. The TRN number of the applicant will be on this webpage. TRN is a 15 digit unique number which will be sent to the applicant’s email address as well as mobile number and will be valid for 15 days.
It will also be written on the TRN page that Part B of the application form can be filled using the given TRN till xx/xx/xxxx (date). You can re-extract the application and submit it within 15 days. You can access the application through Saved Applications and submit on the GST portal.
This will complete the work of your Part A GST REG-01 form.
Step 4: Part B of GST REG-01 form starts with this step. Once again the person has to go to the new registration page under the service button (as mentioned in Step-1). But now a person has to click on TRN and then type the number and also fill the captcha code. After this click on the ‘Continue’ button.
Step 5: A new webpage will open. It will ask for an OTP which will be sent to the person’s mobile number and email address. After entering the OTP, click on the Continue button.
Step 6: Another web page will open, and it will show the status of GST REG-01 form as ‘Draft’. This is because till now only Part-A was filled and Part-B was not filled. There will be another button named ‘Action’ on this page. Click on it. Part-B of GST REG-01 form starts from here.
Part B of GST Reg-01
Part B will have approximately 27 different points with 10 sub heads which are required to be completed. In particular, the 26th and 27th paragraphs are related to consent and self-verification. For the remaining 25 points you will have to fill some information carefully. It cannot be revised later. To correct these information, you will have to cancel this registration and register afresh. After knowing all these points, the next step is Aadhaar authentication and verification. After that the documents will have to be uploaded.
