New members have been appointed in the country’s antitrust body Competition Commission of India (CCI). These three new members will look after foreign affairs. One of the new members appointed is a former official of the Commerce Ministry. Apart from this, another member who has got responsibility in the Competition Commission of India (CCI), she has previously worked as the interim compliance officer in WhatsApp. This information has been received by news agency Reuters quoting sources. Apart from this, CCI has added one more member who has previously worked in CAG.
Who are the three new members of CCI?
CCI has entrusted the responsibility of handling foreign affairs to Anigal Aggarwal, Shweta Kakkar and Deepak Anurag. Of these, Anil Aggarwal is a former police officer who has also worked in the Commerce Ministry. He has also worked in many startups. Speaking to news agency Reuters, he confirmed about his appointment. However, he refused to give more information about it.

According to her LinkedIn profile, she has worked as Interim Chief Compliance Officer at WhatsApp. Talking about Deepak Anurag, he has worked as an officer in the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG). Shweta and Deepak could not be contacted regarding the new responsibility in CCI while CCI did not give any reply.

The aim of the Competition Commission of India is to maintain a healthy competitive environment in the country. The greater the competition, the more innovation will be encouraged. This will reduce costs and consumers will have a plethora of options to choose from. Its job is to curb deals that eliminate competition in the market, use of its strong presence to weaken competition, etc. CCI consists of 6 members including a chairperson who is appointed by the Central Government.
