Violence has erupted in Maharashtra’s Kolhapur district over a row over the display of Aurangzeb and Tipu Sultan statuses on mobile phones by some Muslims on the day of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s coronation. There has been a lot of stone pelting during the violence. Police had to resort to lathi charge to control the situation.
Hindu organizations have demanded strict action against such people. The protesters involved in the protest have closed the Kolhapur market. At the same time, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis have given instructions to take action against those who spread chaos. The incident is of Tuesday (June 6).
According to media reports, on June 6, 2020 (Tuesday), the coronation day of Chhatrapati Shivji Maharaj, some people of the Muslim community had posted objectionable posters as their WhatsApp status. These posters had pictures of Tipu Sultan and Aurangzeb. All the three accused who posted status are said to be minors.
After these posters went viral, Hindu organizations raised the demand for action. Hindu organizations have termed it as a post insulting the men of the nation. Due to this tension, violence broke out in Ahmednagar.

Hindu organizations demonstrated in Kolhapur on Tuesday (June 6) demanding strict action against the accused. During this, the protesters closed the markets. Tension spread over this. Meanwhile, the police took charge and lathi-charged. During the clashes, there was also information about stone pelting on the police and vandalism in shops.
The Home Ministry of Maharashtra Government has been alerted on the tension spreading in different parts of the state. Issuing the order, the Ministry has asked to control the ruckus in Kolhapur immediately. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has appealed to the people for peace. He has assured strict action against the culprits.
There was violence in Ahmednagar too
On the other hand, Hindu organizations organized a rally on Tuesday (June 6, 2023) in Ahmednagar with the pictures of Tipu Sultan and Aurangzeb. It is alleged that stone pelting took place at the rally in Samanpur village, five kilometers from Sangamner town. Two people were injured in this stone pelting and some vehicles were damaged. The police have started investigation by registering a case in this dispute as well.
Let us inform that a procession was taken out by the Muslim community on Sunday (June 4, 2023) in Ahmednagar. In this procession, 4 people were walking ahead carrying the poster of Aurangzeb. The video of this procession went viral, on which Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed displeasure. In this case, a case has been registered against 4 people for inciting religious sentiments.
