The Fact India: The violence in Manipur is showing no signs of abating. In Sero village of Kakching district of the state, some people set ablaze 100 houses, including the house of Congress MLA Ranjit Singh. The people of which community have executed this incident, its information has not been received. A party of BSF was fired upon. Clashes have been going on in the state since May 3 between people of the Meitei and Kuki communities. So far 98 people have lost their lives in the violence. More than 300 have been injured. Home Minister Amit Shah has appealed to the people to maintain peace.
According to officials, some people came to Sero village on Sunday evening. They started vandalizing the house of Congress MLA Ranjit. The MLA and his family narrowly escaped the attack. The violent mob set fire to several houses in the village. A police officer said that after the fire broke out, people were safely evacuated from the houses. He was taken to the relief camp. The fire brigade later brought the fire under control.
The mob attacked a BSF team deployed in the rural areas of the district with mortars. There is no news of any casualty in this attack. Police suspect that the suspects used stolen weapons to attack the BSF post. Meanwhile, there is also information about firing between the security forces and the violent mob.
Let us tell you that violence broke out in Manipur on 3 May. More than 37 thousand people were shifted to relief camps. More than 11 districts have been affected due to the violence. When the violence did not stop even after a month, Home Minister Amit Shah reached Manipur on May 29 on a four-day visit. On the last day of the tour (June 1), Shah asked people in Manipur not to pay heed to rumours. Those possessing weapons will have to surrender before the police. After this, the miscreants started surrendering weapons. A total of 202 weapons have been surrendered so far.
