Interim Richmond Police Chief Rick Edwards and other officials told the media that police arrested a suspect, a 19-year-old man, and plan to charge him with two counts of second-degree murder, among other possible crimes.
The shooting occurred outside the Altria Theater on the campus of Virginia Commonwealth University, where a local high school graduation ceremony was being held. Edwards said that the dead were men aged between 18 and 36. He did not confirm a WWBT television news report that the victims were father and son.
Edwards said that of the shooting victims, a 31-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries and four other men aged 14, 32, 55 and 58 also suffered injuries. In addition, a 9-year-old girl was hit by a car in a stampede during the shooting, and several others suffered injuries from falls. Apart from this, many people are in panic.
