Cow Slaughter Issue: Controversy has arisen over Karnataka’s Animal Husbandry Minister Venkatesh’s statement regarding cows. Referring to the Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Cattle Protection Act, the minister had said that the government would reconsider this law. This act is also known as the anti-cow slaughter law.
BJP attacks Congress over cow slaughter issue
The BJP on Tuesday (June 6) hit out at the Congress, questioning whether it wanted to start its term with a re-look at the law banning cow slaughter in Karnataka, according to news agency PTI. BJP’s Karnataka unit is protesting against it. BJP leader Purushottam Rupala said that Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leader Sonia Gandhi should speak on this issue.
Cabinet to discuss cow slaughter issue again
When Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was asked about this after Karnataka Animal Husbandry Minister K Venkatesh’s statement, he had said that the cabinet would discuss the matter. Rupala said that once the ruling party in the state takes a final stand, the central government will take cognizance of the issue. He said that this matter has once again exposed the mentality of the Congress. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had shown the foresight to form a separate ministry for this.
