Rahul Gandhi In America: Rahul Gandhi is on a 10-day tour of America. For the third time in three days, he attacked the Modi government and the BJP. Speaking at the National Press Club in Washington, Rahul Gandhi accused the Modi government of weakening the country’s institutions. He also expressed concern about the freedom of the press in India.
Rahul Gandhi claimed in Washington that the power of the press is also weakening in India. He said, ‘India has very strong systems which already exist, those systems have become weak. The freedom of the press is weakening in India, which is not hidden from anyone and everyone knows this. Screws are also being tightened on the institutional structure. You should ask this question to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I don’t know how you would do that but you should ask.”
Describing media freedom as very important for India, he said, one should be open to criticism, criticism should be heard and it is this response that builds a democracy. Screws are on the institutions that allow the Indian people to speak.
‘I got maximum punishment in defamation case’
Rahul Gandhi also cried over the punishment given in the defamation case. Rahul said, after 1947, I am the first person who has got the maximum punishment in the case of defamation. No one has been given such punishment, that too on the first offence. This makes it clear what is happening to me. It is interesting to see my disqualification after my speech about Adani in Parliament. So you can do the math.
Responding to another question on opposition unity, the visiting Congress leader in the US said, “The opposition is very well united and it is becoming more and more united.” He said that we are in talks with all the opposition.
