Gen Manoj Pande Bangladesh Visit: Army Chief General Manoj Pandey left for a two-day tour of Bangladesh on Monday (June 5). During this he met Bangladeshi counterpart General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed. General Pandey will hold discussions during this time to find ways to expand bilateral defense and security ties.
This is General Manoj Pandey’s second visit to Bangladesh as Army Chief. He went to Bangladesh in July last year on his first foreign trip after assuming the top post. Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADGPI) said in a tweet, “Gen Manoj Pandey held talks with Bangladeshi Arma Chief Gen SM Shafiuddin Ahmed and Principal Staff Officer Lt Gen Waqar-uz-Zaman, Armed Forces Division and discussed issues of mutual interest.” Discussed aspects of
tribute to soldiers
India’s army chief had visited Bangladesh in July last year on his first foreign trip after taking over the top post. The army chief also paid floral tributes at Shikha Anirban and paid homage to the soldiers who laid down their lives for the liberation of Bangladesh. He inspected the Guard of Honor at Senkunja and planted a sapling to commemorate the friendship between the two armies.
Pandey will give Bangladesh India Friendship Trophy
On Tuesday (June 6), General Pandey will inspect the passing out parade (POP) of officer cadets of the 84th ‘Long Course’ at the Bangladesh Military Academy (BMA) in Chattogram. During the parade, the Army Chief will present the ‘Bangladesh India Friendship Trophy’ instituted to the best foreign cadet from friendly countries passing out from BMA.
The first trophy is being presented this year to Officer Cadet Everton of Tanzania. The army said in a statement that this trophy is in lieu of the ‘Bangladesh Trophy and Medal’ established for the best foreign cadet passing out the course at the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun in December 2021.
