In a conversation with BBC, a local eyewitness Tutu Vishwas has said that he was at his home at the time of the incident. Then there was a sound like an explosion. When I came out of the house, I saw that the train was climbing over the goods train. On getting closer to the train, he saw a lot of people. Most of these people were injured. Many people had died there. A child was crying near the train. His parents had died. After sometime the child also died while crying.
Death of three brothers of the same family
According to the report of ‘Aaj Tak’, three people of the same family were killed in the accident in Coromandel Express in Balasore. All three were brothers, living in Basanti area of South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. The deceased were identified as Haran Gayen, Nishikant Gayen, Dibakar Gayen. All three of them used to take care of their families by doing wages. All three were going to Andhra Pradesh in connection with wages. But, before that this accident happened.
Father kept searching for son’s dead body
Father and son had left the house to earn to pay off the debt of Rs 15 lakh that had accrued to their family. The son has gone missing after the accident. The father is searching for his son amidst the pile of dead bodies. In a conversation with NBT, 53-year-old Ravindra Shaw said that he and his son were sitting in the train talking about paying off the loan. Both were worried about the future that after earning how much money they would be able to become debt free. During this time this accident happened.
Ravindra Shaw has further said that when he regained consciousness after the accident, his son had gone missing. Corpses and pieces of human bodies were visible everywhere. From the severed head to the torso, he was looking carefully. Seeing any part of someone’s body, he would pick it up and see if it was his son’s. Even in the pile of dead bodies, he tried to find his son. But his son could not be found.
Came back home after 14 years on mother’s death, now death
Local people also became victims of the incident in Balasore, Odisha. Ramesh, who hails from Balasore, lives in Chennai. He came back home after 14 years after the demise of his mother. After performing all the rituals, he was returning back to Chennai. That’s when this accident happened. Both the brothers of Ramesh are now engaged in searching for their brother from the crime scene to the hospital. In a conversation with Jagran, the brother of the deceased Ramesh said that his brother had boarded the train at 6 pm and the accident took place after about an hour.
