A Christian boy has been sentenced to death on charges of blasphemy in Pakistan, an Islamic country called hell for minorities. The name of the convicted convict is Nauman Masih, whose age is 22 years. A complaint was registered against Nauman Masih 4 years ago. The court found Nouman guilty of sending anti-Islam content on the messaging app. This sentence was announced on Tuesday (30 May 2023) from the district court of Bahawalpur. Along with the death sentence, a fine of Rs 20,000 has also been imposed on Nauman.
According to media reports, the case is from Bahawalpur in Pakistan. Nauman Masih, a resident of Islamic Colony, about 400 km from Lahore, was accused of blaspheming the Muslim Prophet Mohammad 4 years ago. Nauman was arrested by the police on 1 July 2019. He was arrested when he was sleeping in a park. A day before Nauman’s arrest, the police had detained his cousin Sunny Waqas on charges of blasphemy. After some time Sunny Waqas was granted bail by the court.
Pakistan’s police presented all the evidence in the court to get Nauman punished. In this evidence, some messages extracted from Nouman’s mobile were shown which were made regarding Prophet Mohammad. Nauman’s mobile was seized by the police at the time of his arrest. Pakistani police had imposed section 295-C on him. There is a provision of death penalty in this section. The matter was heard in the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Hafeez ur Rehman Khan.
The relatives of death row convict Nouman Masih have questioned the decision. He has called Nauman innocent. According to Nouman’s father Asghar Masih, the police have trapped his son. Talking about his and his wife’s heartbreak after the sentence, Asghar Masih expressed faith in God and hoped that his son would come back safely. On the other hand, Pakistan’s human rights activist Ilyas Samuel has said that he will challenge this decision in the High Court, calling it flawed.
