Smriti Irani on Wrestlers Protest: Wrestlers, who have been agitating for a month against Indian Wrestling Association President and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, had decided to shed their medals in the Ganges. These protesting wrestlers had reached Haridwar on Tuesday (May 30) with medals. Whom the President of the Indian Farmers Union, Naresh Tikait, has explained and returned them. Tikait has asked the wrestlers to postpone their decision for five days. Meanwhile, Union Minister Smriti Irani on Tuesday asked why Babita Phogat was not supporting the protesting wrestlers, who are members of her family.
‘I had a conversation with Babita Phogat ji’
In an interview given to Times Now, Smriti Irani said that ‘I had a conversation with Babita Phogat ji. Do you think world famous wrestler like Babita Phogat will side with those people who exploited others and especially their family members? The issue is not why the wrestlers said they would immerse their medals at 6 pm and did not do so till 8 pm. Those who are aware of the laws know that the legal process is going on.
He said that if there is any interference now, it will go against those women. Irani said that I want to know why the leaders of the opposition want to deprive these wrestlers from fair investigation. Do you think Babita Phogat will stand against her family members like this?
The opposition of wrestlers is political
In another interview given to News18, Smriti Irani said that the issue of protest against wrestlers is absolutely political. As an MP and a woman, I just want to say that Congress was not aware of Sudha Singh of Amethi, who was awarded Padma Shri in 2021. It would be better if the Congress family refrains from making it a political issue, but it is their habit and they will do it. Being a woman, I am saying again that the Supreme Court has commented on this issue and hence I will not comment.
Supriya Shrinate tweeted
Congress leader Supriya Shrinate condemned Smriti Irani’s reaction. He asked whether the Union Minister through his remarks supported the police action on women wrestlers. Before answering this, Shrinet tweeted, do not forget that you are also the mother of a daughter. Can you make eye contact with your daughter after these absurd answers?
I don’t know – was the Amish on your show more brazen?
Your question: Do you think that the way Priyanka Gandhi tweeted on the chest of the players that “The medals on the chest of the players are the pride of our country but boots are being kept on them” Don’t you think this is also a political issue… https://t.co/psFdErtwXV

Babita Phogat made distance
In the second phase of the wrestlers’ protest that started at Jantar Mantar, BJP MP and former wrestler Babita Phogat looked distant. While in the first phase earlier this year, Babita acted as a mediator between the government and the protesters. Babita opposed the presence of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra at the protest site. He told that Priyanka Gandhi’s personal secretary Sandeep Singh himself was accused of insulting a Dalit woman.
