According to a Reuters report, Vadim Skibitsky, deputy head of Ukraine’s military intelligence service, told Germany’s Die Welt newspaper in an interview that Ukraine wanted to kill Vladimir Putin, ‘because he oversees the war, and all make the decisions’ and the Russian President was also aware that he was at the top of Ukraine’s kill list.
The report quoted Vadim Skibitsky as saying, “But ultimately, everyone will have to answer for their actions…”
Vadim Skibitsky told Die Welt, “Putin sees that we are getting closer to him, but he is also afraid of being killed by his own people…”
Skibitsky also named other Russians who are on the hitlist – the head of the Mercenary, Yevgeny Prigozhin, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, General Staff Chief Valery Gerasimov and military commander Sergei Surovikin, who has been dubbed by Russian media as ‘General Armageddon’.
Skibitsky also said that Vladimir Putin is a difficult target because he has been ‘hidden’ for too long, but is now more publicly visible than ever.
When asked whether Vladimir Putin’s security wait was being extended after Skibitsky’s interview, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, “Believe me, our security agencies know their job, and they know what to do… .”
Peskov said Skibitsky’s interview confirms that the “special military operation” launched by Russia 15 months ago in Ukraine was correct.
A drone attack on the Kremlin earlier this month was described by Russia as an attempt by Ukraine to kill Putin, but Ukraine denied it at the time.
