Team India
Team India is going to face Australia in the final of the World Test Championship. This match is to be played at The Oval from June 7. Indian players are now reaching England after the IPL is over. But former Team India batsman Sunil Gavaskar has expressed concern for the Indian team before this big match.
Gavaskar gave warning to Team India
Sunil Gavaskar feels that the biggest challenge for the Indian players in the WTC final against Australia next week will be to get out of the IPL T20 format. The Indian team, led by Rohit Sharma, will play the WTC final at The Oval from June 7, with most of the playing players having taken part in the IPL. The IPL ended on Monday with Chennai Super Kings lifting a record-equalling fifth trophy.
Most players coming from T20 format
Gavaskar said on Star Sports on Tuesday that the biggest test will be that everyone will come playing T20 format and Test cricket is a longer format. So I think it’s going to be a big challenge. He also said that among all the Indian players, only experienced batsman Cheteshwar Pujara has adapted to the longer format as he has been playing county cricket. Gavaskar said that they only have Cheteshwar Pujara who has played in the English County Championship so he would be the only player playing the longer format in these conditions. So it is going to be a big challenge for them.
Rahane performed brilliantly in IPL
Ajinkya Rahane made a strong comeback in the IPL after a prolonged spell of poor form and helped Chennai Super Kings win the title this season of IPL. Regarding him, Gavaskar said that the 34-year-old’s experience in English conditions would be beneficial for the team. He said that he has a lot of experience playing in England, he has scored a lot of runs in England. So yes, I think he will be a key player at number five. I also think he has to prove himself, I still think he has got a lot of cricket left in him and this will be a great opportunity for him.
