When Ummul was very young, her father moved to Delhi with the family. Even here his troubles did not end. His family started living in a slum hut in the Nizamuddin area of Delhi. Father used to sell clothes by hawking. The family used to feed with great difficulty.
When Ummul was very young, his mother passed away. After this Ummul’s father remarried. Ummul’s step mother did not like her going to school. Ummul could not give up her studies and so she left home and started living alone.

Ummul Kher studied at the Deendayal Upadhyaya Institute for the Physically Handicapped till Class V. After this, he studied till the eighth grade from Amar Jyoti Charitable Trust, a charitable organization run by the government. Then his mother had passed away. The family refused to continue her education beyond class VIII. Ummul Kher then took the difficult decision of leaving home and living alone in Jhuggi Jhopri (JJ) cluster, Trilokpuri. To earn his living, he started giving tuitions to slum children. Ummul Kher’s Amar Jyoti Charitable Trust took care of the tuition for classes IX and X. In class XII, Kher scored 91 per cent and got admission in the prestigious Gargi College of Delhi University.

In the year 2012, he had an accident. In which she remained on a wheel chair for a year. After completing his graduation, Ummul Kher cleared the entrance exam for Master in International Studies at JNU. With this, she got enough money that she could afford the expenses of her studies without teaching tuition.

Ummul Kher is suffering from Bone Fragile Disorder. In this the bones of the body become weak. Ummul’s bones were often broken by this. He suffered 16 fractures and eight surgeries in his life.
Ummul became an officer
Ummul Kher had a dream of becoming an IAS. After doing his PhD, he prepared for the Civil Services Examination. Achieved everything with determination despite all odds. Ummul cleared the civil services exam in his first attempt in the year 2017. He got 420th rank.
