Srichand Parmanand Hinduja, (SP), Chairman of $70 billion Hinduja Group, passed away in London on Wednesday after a prolonged illness. He was 87. Srichand Parmanand Hinduja was the eldest of the four brothers.
A spokesperson for the family said in a statement, “Gopichand, Prakash, Ashok and the entire Hinduja family regret to announce the passing away of Mr. S.P. Hinduja, the head of the family and chairman of the Hinduja Group, with a heavy heart. Our late father was a visionary and patriarch of the family imparting the founding principles and values of PD Hinduja, he played a very important role along with his brothers in building a strong bond between his host country, the UK and his home country India “
been sick for a few years
For the past few years, Srichand Parmanand Hinduja was battling illness and was under nursing care. He had long been the face of the family, having built the group along with his brothers, who were collectively known for their networking skills and business acumen.
He grew his family businesses, which include commercial vehicle manufacturer Ashok Leyland and private bank IndusInd. The Hinduja Group has operations in 38 countries, with businesses in sectors such as oil lubricants, chemicals, energy and IT.
The Hinduja Group employs over 200,000 people.
