Rahul Gandhi Passport: Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court has reserved the verdict in the passport case of Rahul Gandhi. The court will pass the order on Friday (May 26) at 1 pm. Rahul Gandhi has filed a petition in the court demanding NOC for normal passport for 10 years. Subramanian Swamy has opposed this petition.
Subranyamana Swamy told the court that there is no valid or effective reason for issuing passport for 10 years in the case of Rahul Gandhi. He said that a normal person can get a passport for 10 years but this is a special case.
Holding a passport is not an absolute right – Swami
Swamy said that the decision of the court is also that like the fundamental rights, the right to have a passport is not an absolute right. It is subject to restrictions imposed by the government in the interest of national security, public order, morality and crime prevention.
Swamy argued that the NOC for passport to Rahul Gandhi should not be given for more than 1 year at this stage in the interest of Sunay and should be reviewed annually. Court can exercise its discretion to grant NOC after analyzing Rahul Gandhi’s case and other related matters.
‘Rahul Gandhi did not respond to the notice’
Subramanian Swamy said that Rahul Gandhi has not yet responded to the notice issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs regarding his citizenship. Subramanian Swamy said that on April 29, 2019, the ministry had asked Rahul Gandhi to give factual information about his citizenship within 15 days, but till now Rahul Gandhi neither replied nor gave any information to the expected agency.
