Nepal’s Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda has reached New Delhi on his first foreign trip after taking over as PM. He was received by Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi at the Delhi airport. Nepalese PM Prachanda began his four-day visit to India on Wednesday. Prachanda will be on an official visit to India from May 30 to June 3 at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. His visit is expected to add new momentum to the already close ties between the two countries.
Prachanda, 68, took over as the Prime Minister in December 2022. After that this is the first bilateral foreign visit of the Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist (CPN-Maoist) leader. Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi tweeted, “Prime Minister of Nepal Prachanda arrived in New Delhi on his first foreign visit after assuming office. He was warmly received at the airport by Minister of State for External Affairs Meenakshi Lekhi. Will give a new impetus to the close and unique relationship.
A high level delegation led by Nepali PM Prachanda has also come to India. Prachanda and Prime Minister Modi will hold talks on Thursday. Thereafter, a number of agreements are expected to be signed by both the sides. Prachanda is also scheduled to meet President Draupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar.

Nepal is bordered by five Indian states of Sikkim, West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Landlocked Nepal relies heavily on India for the transport of goods and services. Nepal has access to the sea through India.

Fourth trip as PM
The India-Nepal Treaty of Peace and Friendship, 1950 is the basis of the special relationship between the two countries. Prachanda will go to Indore on Friday morning and return to Kathmandu the next day. Prachanda’s visit to India is being seen as an opportunity to improve relations between the two neighboring countries. This is his fourth visit to India as Prime Minister.
