Pakistan Crisis: An anti-terrorism court in Pakistan on Thursday (May 25) allowed 16 suspects involved in the vandalism and violence at Jinnah House to be handed over to the commanding officer. They will be prosecuted under the laws of the army. Earlier, 80 party members including PTI chief Imran Khan have been included in the no-fly list.
Significantly, on May 9, angry party supporters ransacked government and military establishments following the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf president Imran Khan. After which PM Shahbaz Sharif said that the protesters will be prosecuted under the laws of the army. Earlier, PTI supporters and protesters involved in the violence have been arrested.
Army officer had made a special request
During the hearing on Thursday, ATC judge Abher Gul Khan approved the demand of the army for the custody of the miscreants lodged in Lahore jail. The accused included Amar Zoheb, Ali Iftikhar, Ali Raza, Muhammad Arsalan, Muhammad Umair, Muhammad Rahim, Zia-ur-Rehman, Waqas Ali, Raees Ahmad, Faisal Irshad, Muhammad Bilal Hussain, Faheem Haider, Arzam Junaid, ex-PTI MPA Are.
Action is being taken under the Army Act
Earlier, a resolution has been passed in the Parliament of Pakistan, under which action can be taken against the accused of violence on May 9 under the Army Act. The army chief of Pakistan had already spoken about taking action against the rioters under the Army Act. Let us tell that there is a provision of punishment ranging from life imprisonment to death if found guilty under the military law. In such a situation, there is a danger for Imran Khan as well.
Imran Khan was arrested from the Islamabad High Court premises in connection with the Al Qadir Trust. After which arson and sabotage were seen across the country. Protesters attacked the army headquarters in Rawalpindi during the violence on May 9.
