The way Mumbai Indians beat Lucknow Supergiants in the IPL Eliminator to make it to Qualifier 2, a similar game will be expected once again. This time the road to the final is not that easy. But today is a very auspicious day for Mumbai Indians in terms of IPL. Exactly 10 years ago on this day, Mumbai Indians created history. Mumbai Indians themselves and their fans will be hoping that today is the same again as it was ten years ago.
Mumbai Indians won the first IPL title ten years ago on 26 May 2013.
Today is 26 May 2023. Exactly ten years ago today, 26 May 2013 was the day when Mumbai Indians won the first IPL title for the first time. Although the team was playing IPL since 2008, but the title did not come for five years. Earlier it was not that big and veteran players were not playing for the team, but as soon as the captaincy came in the hands of Rohit Sharma, the team started looking so strong that all the other teams were left behind. In 2013, among the four teams that reached the playoffs, CSK was at number one with 22 points. After this, Mumbai Indians with 22 points and Rajasthan Royals with 20 points and Sunrisers Hyderabad with 20 points were in the top 4 teams. The team made it to the finals and had a title match with KKR there. Which had earlier won the 2012 IPL title. In the final, Mumbai Indians clashed with CSK, captained by MS Dhoni, who had won the trophy earlier also.
Mumbai Indians beat CSK by 23 in the final
In the final of IPL 2013, Mumbai Indians had scored 148 runs in the allotted 20 overs while batting first. It was a small score and at the end of the first innings nobody thought MI would win the title. Chennai Super Kings bowler Dwayne Bravo had broken MI’s back in a way. He took four wickets for 42 runs in four overs. Now CSK needed only 149 runs to win another IPL title. But from the very beginning, CSK kept going out one by one. Mike Hussey scored one run. Players like Suresh Raina and S Badrinath could not even open their account. Ravindra Jadeja and Chris Morris were also out on zero. Although captain MS Dhoni definitely played an explosive inning of 63 runs off 45 balls. It included five sixes and three fours. But the whole team together could only score 125 runs for nine wickets in 20 overs and Mumbai Indians won the match by 23 runs and captured the title.
