Those who tease someone in America by calling them Natu and Motu should be careful. New York City Mayor Eric Adams signed a law on Friday that would ban discrimination based on physical parameters such as weight and height. Weight and height now join the list of protected classes like race, gender and religion. “We all deserve equal access to employment and housing, no matter what we look like and no matter how tall you are or how much you weigh,” the mayor said at the City Hall bill signing ceremony.
Adams, the leader of the Democratic Party, said the ordinance “will help provide equal opportunities for all New Yorkers.” It will create a more inclusive workplace and a more conducive living environment and protect against discrimination.” The weight may hinder them from performing essential job functions. Some business leaders expressed their opposition to the legislation when it was placed before the Council.
