Mumbai Crime Branch: The Anti-Extortion Cell (AEC) of Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested Ali Asghar Shirazi, a trusted aide of Indian drug lord Kailash Rajput. Shirazi was overseeing Rajput’s entire drug operation since his arrest in Ireland last year. According to the reports, the process of extradition of Rajput is going on at this time.
In the month of March this year, AEC successfully busted a cartel involved in the distribution of ketamine in European countries. It was being sold here at parties. The same syndicate also supplied other illegal drugs like pain killers, sleeping pills and sex enhancing pills to UAE and US. As a result, several persons associated with courier firms and customs clearing agents were arrested.
Shirazi arrested after two months of trying
The AEC had issued Look Out Circulars (LOCs) against Rajput’s close aides, including Shirazi. Shirazi has been arrested by the Mumbai Crime Branch after two months of trying. Investigation revealed that Shirazi was involved in the production and distribution of ketamine through courier services to meet the high demand for the drug in European countries. Along with this, a red corner notice was also issued against Shirazi.
Was arrested under NDPS Act
According to sources, Shirazi was arrested along with Kailash Rajput in 2013 at Mumbai’s international airport under various sections of the NDPS Act, 1985. Although Shirazi was released from jail in 2014. In 2020, the Property Cell Unit of the Crime Branch arrested his close aides and persons involved in drug smuggling conspiracy.
