Sports Desk: The 16th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is now towards its end. The second last match of the league was played at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Friday. In a thrilling match, Gujarat defeated Mumbai Indians by 62 runs to enter the final. On May 28, Gujarat will face Chennai Super Kings. Batting first, scored 233 runs losing two wickets in 20 overs. Gujarat opener Shubman Gill played a fiery inning of 129 runs. He has also become the Orange Cap winner of this season. Gill, who completed his century in just 49 balls, is the youngest batsman to hit a century in the playoffs. Chasing the target, the Mumbai batsmen were already all out for 62 runs.
Gujarat Titans scored 233 runs thanks to the explosive innings of Shubman Gill.
Before this, after winning the toss, the Mumbai team decided to bowl first. Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha came out to bat for Gujarat Titans. In the seventh over, Saha was caught by Ishaan Kishan off Piyush Chawla. However, on the other hand Shubman Gill Atishi kept on batting. Both the openers added 54 runs in a 38-ball partnership, collecting quick runs. Saha scored 18 runs in 16 balls. Sai Sudarshan came to support after Saha left. Gill completed his century in just 49 balls. Gill was dismissed by Tim David on the ball of Akash Madhwal after scoring 129 runs in 60 balls. Gill hit ten sixes and seven fours in his fiery innings. Sai Sudarshan also retired hurt after scoring a brilliant 43 off 31 balls. Hardik Pandya and Rashid Khan remained at the crease till the end. Hardik Pandya scored 28 runs and Rashid Khan scored 5 runs and remained not out till the end. Mumbai Indians were given a target of 234 runs to win.
Mumbai batsmen could not stand in front of Gujarat
Chasing the target, Mumbai got the first blow in the first over. Opener Nehal Wadhera was caught by Wriddhiman Saha on a personal score of four runs off the ball of Mohammed Shami. When Wadhera was out on the fifth ball of the first over, the team’s score was just 5 runs. The second wicket fell in the form of captain Rohit Sharma. Captain Rohit Sharma got out after scoring 8 runs while earlier Cameron Green retired hurt after scoring 4 runs. However, later Cameron Green was dismissed by Joshua Little after scoring 30 runs with the bat. Before this Mumbai’s third wicket fell in the form of Tilak Verma. Tilak was batting brilliantly. But Rashid got bowled in the sweep of Khan’s ball. Tilak scored 43 runs in 14 balls. Apart from Tilak, Surya Kumar Yadav tried to handle the innings but he too got out after scoring a half-century. Surya Kumar was bowled by Mohit Sharma after scoring 61 off 38 balls. As soon as Surya Kumar got out, the whole team got out with a bang. After him no batsman reached double digits. The entire team was dismissed for 171 runs in 18.2 overs. Mohit Sharma took five wickets, Rashid Khan and Mohammed Shami took two wickets each while Joshua Little took one wicket.
Gujarat competes with Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings
Gujarat Titans have defeated Mumbai Indians. Now Gujarat will face Chennai Super Kings led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the final. Dhoni’s team has reached the final for the tenth time. There will be a clash for the IPL winner on May 28.
