The BMC has announced that eco-friendly Ganesha idols will be mandatory for domestic Ganeshotsavs from this year following directions from Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and the Supreme Court. (Environment friendly Lord Ganesha idols made compulsory for household Ganeshotsav)
In order to promote eco-friendly Ganeshotsav, Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal, in a special meeting held today, directed to provide free space to sculptors for making idols of Lord Ganesha from Shadu Mitti in each department of Municipal Corporation.
The Municipal Corporation is taking several steps to make this year’s Ganeshotsav more eco-friendly. Under this initiative, in Ganeshotsav 2023, it has been made mandatory to make idols up to four feet high at domestic level with only shadu mitti and eco-friendly material for Ganeshotsav.
Along with this, there will be a ban on idols made of Plaster of Paris in the Ganeshotsav of the house. Keeping this matter in mind, the sculptors who make eco-friendly Ganesha idols were instructed to find free space at one place in each department of the municipal corporation, and instructed to find regional joint commissioners and deputy commissioners in the meeting.
