New Delhi. This year more than 16 lakh students have filled the form for CUET UG. Out of these students, more than 14 lakh students have also deposited the fees for this. According to the UGC, this number is 41 percent more than the previous year. Last year 9.9 lakh applications were received. Due to such a large number of applications this time, the CUET UG-2023 examinations will now run till June 6. Whereas June 7 and 8 have been kept as reserve dates. The new academic session in Central Universities will start from August 1 this year.
The exam, which was to begin from May 21, was earlier to be held till May 31 only. UGC is now going to conduct these exams in two different sessions. According to UGC Chairman M Jagadesh Kumar, the second session is being organized to reduce the problems of the students. The second session of examinations will be held on June 1, 2, 5 and 6. According to UGC Chairman M Jagadesh Kumar, board exams from CUET will not be unnecessary anywhere.
UGC Chairman Professor M Jagadesh Kumar told that last year students from 59 countries had applied for CUET-UG. In 2023, students from 74 countries are joining it. Of these, 1000 students are from Europe, Asia, America and Gulf countries. Overall this time the number of students appearing for the exam has increased by more than 4 lakhs.
UGC Chairman said that there is a 41 percent increase in the total number of students appearing in CUET-UG in 2023. He further said, we have also seen an increase in the number of universities participating in the process of CUET-UG. In 2022, it was 90, but increased to 242 in 2023. This significant growth indicates that CUET-UG is becoming a popular option for admission to UG programmes.
And the five central universities which have received the maximum number of applications for CUET-UG in 2023 are Delhi University, Banaras Hindu University, Allahabad University, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University and Jamia Millia Islamia. The same sequence was in 2022 as well. Of the 14 lakh students who will sit for CUET-UG in 2023, 6.51 lakh are females, and 7.48 lakh are males. Compared to 2022, there has been an increase of 50 percent in the number of girl students this year, while the increase in male students is 34 percent.
