Mafia Atiq Ahmed was once synonymous with fear in Prayagraj. If he wanted, the city would have stopped. Had he wanted, the crowd would have followed him. But silence fell on the graves of Atiq and his brother Ashraf on the 40th. According to media reports, no one came to offer flowers on the graves of both of them and to follow the custom of chadarposhi.
There is a lot of recognition in Islam on the 40th day after death. The relatives and relatives of the deceased come and cover the grave. Flowers are offered. Read Fatiha. Praying for the peace of the soul of the deceased. But according to the news, on Thursday (May 25, 2023), nothing like this could be seen at the graves of Atiq and Ashraf. There was silence in the Kasari-Masari cemetery of Prayagraj where the mafia brothers are buried.
Earlier it was being said that Atiq’s wife Shaista Parveen and Ashraf’s wife Zainab could come to the cemetery to perform the rituals of the fortieth. But this did not happen. Shaista is absconding since the murder of Umesh Pal in February. The UP police has now declared him a mafia too. She did not come to the cemetery even on the day of her husband’s burial. However, later in some media reports it was claimed that she was in Prayagraj that day only. But did not go to the cemetery due to the strict police arrangements.
Atiq’s two sons are in jail. Two sons are in the correctional home. Son Asad, accused in the murder of Umesh Pal, has been killed in a police encounter. Shaista did not come forward even after Asad’s encounter. Several other relatives of Atiq Ahmed are also absconding. Father-in-law Harun and brother-in-law Usman Ahmed came to the cemetery on the day of the burial of the mafia brothers. But on the fortieth they also did not come.
Significantly, Atiq Ahmed and Ashraf were shot dead by the shooters in front of the media. On 15 April 2023, the police came to Colvin Hospital in Prayagraj with the mafia brothers. It was here that the mafia brothers who were talking to the media were gunned down and surrendered by the shooters. All the three shooters had also come posing as media persons.
