Air Quality Index: Delhi’s Environment Minister Gopal Rai organized a round table conference on Monday (May 15). In which he planned to deploy mobile vans at all the 13 pollution hot spots of Delhi for a week each to find out the real sources. A day after this, on Tuesday (May 16), Delhi woke up to gray skies and dusty weather.
Many parts of Delhi-NCR are covered in dust. According to the Air Quality Index (AQI), most parts of the National Capital Region are in the ‘severe’ category. Along with this, according to the data of the Central Pollution Control Board, AQI was recorded between poor to very poor category in many parts. The hazardous category has serious as well as serious effects on the health of the people. Air quality above 400 in AQI is considered dangerous.
Dusty winds are likely to blow
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light rain in the city. The IMD said in a statement on Tuesday, May 16, that Delhi will have a partly cloudy sky and there is a possibility of light rain and thundershowers. The IMD also said that dusty winds are likely to blow during the day.
Organized round table conference
A round table conference was organized on Monday 15th May to discuss Real Time Source Appropriation Study at Delhi Secretariat. A detailed discussion was held under the chairmanship of Delhi’s Environment Minister Gopal Rai to improve the environment and find out the sources of increasing pollution. Several Twitter users posted pictures of heavy haze in the sky. A Twitter user wrote that burning of the stubble could be a major reason for this.
