If Puranas, scriptures and beliefs are to be believed, then there are 8 divine men in the country who are believed to be alive for hundreds of thousands of years. There are forms of God in it, some are sages and some are kings. Why is he considered as Chiranjeevi? What are the things behind it.
1- Mother Sita had given Hanuman ji the boon of being immortal. It is believed that Hanuman ji is such a deity who is alive even today and is present on this earth. Hanuman is considered the supreme servant of Lord Rama. He had a huge role in Ram’s victory against Ravana in Lanka.
2- Sage Markandeya. He was short lived. He composed the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra. After this he pleased Lord Shiva by doing penance. With the boon of Lord Shiva, he became Chiranjeevi.
3- The sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu is considered to be of Parshuram. Parshuram’s father was Rishi Jamadagni and mother Renuka of grumpy nature. Parashurama is mentioned in both the Ramayana and the Mahabharata, as he is believed to have existed in both the ages and was still present on earth.
4- Ved Vyas had edited all the four Vedas Rigveda, Atharvaveda, Samveda and Yajurveda. His full name is Krishna Dwaipayan. He has also composed 18 Puranas. Ved Vyas was the son of sage Parashar and Satyavati.
5- The name of the son of Guru Dronacharya of Mahabharata era, Ashwathama is considered alive even today. While Lord Shiva gave him the boon of immortality, Lord Krishna cursed him that he would wander the earth with a wound on his head as long as there is life here. Ashwatthama fought on behalf of the Kauravas in the war in the Dwapar era. Ashwatthama became angry with the Pandavas because they had killed their father Guru Drona by deceit. In response to this, Ashwatthama killed the children of the Pandavas.
6- King Bali is a descendant of devotee Prahlad. Vamandev, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, donated everything he had. He was a demon king. Pleased with his charity, Lord Vishnu became his gatekeeper. King Mahabali was considered the most ideal and most prosperous ruler in Kerala, who made his kingdom heavenly.
7- Ravana’s younger brother Vibhishan has also been considered as Chiranjeevi. Vibhishan supported religion in the war of religion and unrighteousness. Vibhishan had also explained a lot to Ravana that he should not fight with Shriram but should return Sita with respect but Ravana did not agree. Later, after the killing of Ravana, Shri Ram handed over Lanka to Vibhishan. Vibhishan has been considered to be religious.
8- In Mahabharata, the teacher of Kauravas and Pandavas was Kripacharya. He was the ultimate ascetic sage. He became immortal on the strength of his tenacity.
