In the first part of the film, there was little incompleteness and scattering in the story, in the second part the ends of the story are not only connected to each other, but they tell this story very effectively. This film with the fine acting of the actors and the Midas touch of Mani Ratnam keeps you hooked from beginning to end.
Ponniyin Selvan 2 Review: The story of the epic of the Chola Empire
Talking about the story of this part of the film, in the first part of the story, Arulmonrivaman (Jayam Ravi), the younger son of Emperor Sundara Chola, went missing during the Sinhala war. The story has progressed. After he leaves, Aditya (Vikram) and uncle Madurantkan begin a power struggle, but Nandini (Aishwarya Rai) still wants to take revenge on the Chola dynasty, while the princess (Trisha) joins forces with her lover to fight against the Cholas. Wants to end the conspiracies against the dynasty. During this, many more secrets related to the Chola dynasty come to the fore, which bring the characters of the story face to face. Will the relationship between the characters get resolved or will they bring more problems. For who will occupy the Chola dynasty, you will have to turn to the theatre.
Ponniyin Selvan 2 Review: Strengths of the script
The questions which were left in the first part of the film. The second part answers those questions in full. This sequel fully lives up to the expectation. This time, along with the story, more depth has been seen in the characters. In this story of kings and queens, the different emotions of the common man have been well combined. This time the story is not completely based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s novel but taking cinematic liberties, a lot has been added. Which goes in favor of the film.
Ponniyin Selvan 2 Review: Here is the mistake
Coming to the shortcomings of the script, the war sequences do not unfold on the screen as effectively as was expected. One of the shortcomings of the film is also that the film has a large cast, which at times makes the story difficult. There is also a little confusion. Along with this, the film has not been able to do justice to many characters. The duration of such films is usually long and this film is also no exception to it. The duration of the film is about three and a half hours. Which is a bit much and this film will entertain you only if you have seen the first part, so before going to the theatre, you must watch the first part in OTT.
Ponniyin Selvan 2 Review: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s strong performance
Talking about acting, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has given a powerful performance in the film. This can be termed as one of the memorable roles of his career. She is in a double role, along with this she has also looked amazingly beautiful in every frame. Vikram has managed to leave his mark. Jayam Ravi has done well in the first part as well. Trisha and Karti are also praised. Rest of the characters have also done justice to their roles. The characters of Shobhita Dhulipal and Aishwarya Lakshmi have not got that much screen time.
Ponniyin Selvan 2 Review: The technical aspect is superb
Mani Ratnam along with his DOP Ravi Burman has created such a world on screen. Which is full of grandeur on the screen. Detailing is visible in every angle of the camera, which also surprises, especially the way Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s character is depicted on the screen in every frame. That’s awesome. Gulzar and Rahman’s name is associated with the music of the film and they have done justice to the theme of the film with their words and music. Eka Lakhani has handled the costume designing work for the film. From the beautiful sarees of the queens to the costumes and armor of the kings, his work has been seen with great detail. The dialogues of the film are in line with the story.
