Mani Ratnam’s historical film ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’ opened to a stupendous opening at the box office, which continued on its second day as well. Like ‘Ponniyin Selvan 1’, its second part is getting a lot of love from the audience. After seeing the day 2 earnings of Aishwarya Rai, Chiyaan Vikram and Karthi starrer period film ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’, speculations are rife that the film may break many records in the coming times. ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’ has been released in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi languages.

‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’ performed well at the box office on the first day and earned 24 crores in India. The film did business of 18.52 crores in Tamil language, 1.7 crores in Hindi language, 1.35 crores in Malayalam language, 2.4 crores in Telugu language and 0.03 crores in Kannada language on the first day. According to the Saknilk report, the second day box office collection of the film is also going to be around 24 crores. The film is getting a very good response in South India and its shows are going houseful.

The film ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’ is very special for Bollywood actress and former Miss World Aishwarya Rai as she started her film career with director Mani Ratnam in this film and she considers him as her mentor. The multi-starrer film stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Chiyaan Vikram along with Trisha Krishnan, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Lakshmi Shobhita Dhulipala, R Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu, Jayaram and Prakash Raj among others. The music in the film is by Oscar winner AR Rahman. The story of Mani Ratnam’s film ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ is based on the novel of the same name by Kalki Krishnamurthy.
