NCB Busts International Drug Racket: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has arrested an Olympic medalist Russian swimmer, a former Russian policeman and another person while busting an international drug racket in Goa. An official told on Saturday (April 29) that various narcotics have been seized from the arrested accused.
According to the police, the woman swimmer among the arrested accused had won a silver medal in the 1980 Olympics. The official said that the Goa unit of NCB has conducted this campaign in the last two weeks.
This is how the drug racket was busted
The NCB official said, “Information was received that a Russian drug gang is operating in Arambol and its surrounding areas in Goa, after which the investigation was started. According to the information received from the intelligence department, a Russian woman S. Varganova is involved in supplying narcotics to foreign nationals. Based on the information received by us during the investigation, the involvement of local person Akash was exposed.
He said, “Further investigation revealed that Akash is part of a larger network and runs on the dictates of a Russian person. That Russian person is the kingpin of this gang.” Soon after that Akash was put on ‘surveillance’. The NCB said that after detailed investigation, the name of Russian man Andre came to the fore and LSD was recovered from him. Investigation revealed that he was growing ganja at his local residence in a ‘hydrophonic’ (aquatic) way.
What happened?
The official said that during the entire operation, the NCB seized 88 blots of LSD, 8.8 grams of cocaine, 242.5 grams of charas, 1.440 kg of hydrophonic ganja, 16.49 grams of hash oil, 410 grams of hash cake and Rs 4.88 lakh in cash. He told that NCB has recovered Indian and foreign currency, fake documents, identity cards and documents related to growing hydrophonic hemp from him.

The NCB said, “The arrested woman has been identified as 1980 Olympic silver medalist in swimming S Varganova and one person has been identified as former Russian policeman Andrey.” Andre has been doing drug business in Goa for a long time. To spread his network, he also went to many cities and was running a network of drug peddlers. ”””” The officer said that along with Russian citizens, local citizen Akash has also been arrested. Further investigation is being done in the matter.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said in Panaji that the Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Goa Police is running a continuous campaign against drugs in the state. He said that various agencies of the state are engaged in ending the illegal drug trade and are working in coordination with each other. “Many prominent drug traffickers have been arrested by the ANC in the last four years,” Sawant told reporters.
