Along with this, his brother and BSP MP Afzal Ansari has also been sentenced to four years in jail under the Gangster Act. A fine of five lakh rupees has also been imposed on Mukhtar.
Mukhtar Ansari was booked under the Gangster Act in connection with the murder of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai and Nandkishore Gupta Rungta, while Afzal Ansari was booked under the Gangster Act on the basis of the case registered in the murder of Krishnanand Rai. A case was registered against both the brothers at the Muhammadabad police station in 2007.
When Yogi’s convoy was attacked
Mukhtar Ansari is believed to be behind the 2005 riots in Mau. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had raised his voice against Mukhtar Ansari as Peethadhishwar of Gorakshpeeth during that time. After the riots in Mau, his convoy was attacked while visiting the area. Former IPS officer Shailendra Singh told the whole incident during a conversation with a news channel.
Former police officer Shailendra Singh, who once took action against Mukhtar, said, “When the Mau riots took place, he (Mukhtar Ansari) used to roam in an open jeep. He (Mukhtar) was roaming in an open jeep where the police administration was failing. At that time (Chief Minister) Yogi Adityanath was coming from Gorakhpur to visit there because unilateral action was taking place, so a bomb was hurled at his (Yogi) convoy to kill him. It was a coincidence that he had changed the car, otherwise a big accident would have happened. It can be understood that Mukhtar’s mind was enlarged.
Gang used to operate from jail
Shailendra Singh told, “When he (Mukhtar) went to jail, big senior officers used to go and play badminton with him. There used to be a court. His government used to run from jail. Outside contracts-leases, kidnapping and all the wrong-doing work all used to run from there. Just wanted to say that he is in jail. His entire gang was operated from there. When Yogi ji came to Uttar Pradesh, he felt that there is danger here, so he went to Punjab in a false case and started enjoying there. Many of his shooters were from Punjab.
