Mukhtar-Afzal Ansari Sentence: Former Bahubali MLA Mukhtar Ansari and his brother BSP MP Afzal Ansari have been sentenced to imprisonment by the MP-MLA court of Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh in the Gangster Act case, along with a heavy fine. .

Cases (Crime No. 1051 and 1052) were registered against Mukhtar Ansari and Afzal Ansari in 2007 at Muhammadabad police station in Ghazipur district of UP. On November 22, 2007, government advocate Neeraj Srivastava filed a case under the Gangster Act by including MPs Afzal Ansari and Mukhtar Ansari in the gangster chart at Mohammadabad Kotwali in Ghazipur district. On 23 September 2022, prima facie charges were framed against both and the prosecution evidence was completed. After hearing the arguments of both the sides, the court had reserved the verdict. On Saturday, the court sentenced Mukhtar Ansari and Afzal in the case. According to the prosecution, Additional Sessions Judge (I) Durgesh of Ghazipur’s Special MP-MLA court sentenced Mukhtar Ansari in the Gangster Act case. A gangster case was registered against Mukhtar in connection with the murder of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai and Nandkishore Gupta Rungta, while his brother Afzal was charged with a gangster case based on the case registered in the murder of Krishnanand Rai. In 2007, apart from Mukhtar Ansari and his brother Afzal Ansari, a case was also registered against his brother-in-law Ejazul Haq under the Gangster Act. Ejazul Haque has passed away. BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai was murdered on 29 November 2005. Seven people, including Krishnanand Rai, were killed by firing bullets at Basaniya Chatti in Mohammadabad. AK-47 was also used in the massacre. The trial started in 2012 in the Gangster Act case. On 23 September 2022, prima facie charges were framed. The hearing in the case was completed on April 1 this year. The sentence was earlier to be pronounced on April 15 but the verdict was postponed due to the presiding officer being on leave. Then the date of judgment was fixed for 29 April. Afzal Ansari is the BSP MP from Ghazipur in UP. He has been sentenced to four years imprisonment. Due to the punishment, now his parliament membership can also end. The Representation of the People Act states that any person convicted of a criminal offense for a sentence of two years or more shall be disqualified ‘from the date of such sentence’ and the disqualification shall continue for six years after the time served in jail. Mukhtar Ansari has been MLA for five consecutive terms from Mau Sadar assembly seat of Mau district. Mukhtar Ansari did not contest the assembly elections in 2022 and his son Abbas Ansari, who was trying his luck from the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (Subhaspa), was elected MLA on his seat. Mukhtar Ansari is currently lodged in a jail in Banda in criminal cases. Mukhtar was produced through video conferencing.
