Clashes between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Force (RSF) have been going on since April 15 in Sudan’s capital Khartoum and neighboring areas. Several aircraft were damaged on the first day of street fighting. It was not possible to get the Indians out of that airport. In such a situation, how did the Indian Air Force and Navy complete the rescue operation? In response to this question, Muraleedharan says, “Many rescued Indians told that they were taken out of the jaws of death and taken to secure centers in Port Sudan. From Port Sudan, these people were taken to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia.” India has made a transit point in Jeddah.”
The Union minister told NDTV, “The first batch of Indians started the journey even before the ceasefire was announced. Clashes continued in many places even during the ceasefire. Despite these threats, the Indian embassy took our people from Khartoum to Port Sudan.” Went.” Union Minister Muraleedharan is one of the key officials leading the evacuation efforts of Indians in Sudan.
72-hour ceasefire in Sudan
The military and paramilitary have again announced a 72-hour ceasefire in Sudan amid repeated ceasefire violations. This announcement was made in the midst of continuous efforts by Saudi Arabia and America to stop the fighting.
Why is there conflict in Sudan?
There is a war of supremacy between the military and the paramilitary in Sudan. First of all, in 2019, people demonstrated to remove the then President of Sudan Omar al-Bashir from power. Then in April 2019, the army overthrew the President and carried out a coup, but after that people started demanding democratic governance and their role in the government. After this, a joint government was formed in Sudan, in which both the civilian and military of the country had a role. There was a coup again in 2021 and military rule started in Sudan.
Struggle over deal to implement civilian rule
Army Chief General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan became the country’s President and RSF leader Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo became the Vice President. Since then, the conflict between the RSF and the army continues. The military and the RSF are at loggerheads over a deal to implement civilian rule.
How exactly did India talk to warring groups in Sudan about safe passage for Indians? Muraleedharan refused to answer this question. The Union Minister said that there is a strong relationship between India and Sudan. It has played a good role in the rescue operation.
India’s strong relations with Sudan
Muraleedharan told NDTV, “I can certainly tell you that India shares a very strong development partnership with Sudan. So both countries and Indians living in Sudan were in touch.” Muraleedharan said that Saudi Arabia has been extremely helpful in the evacuation effort.
Saudi Arabia is doing co-operate
He further added, “A control room has been set up in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Indian Air Force aircraft are stationed at King Abdullah Air Base in Jeddah. They have been operating from there for the last four days. Of course Saudi officials are with us.” Co-operating. They are very warm. Helping with our care, feeding and immigration procedures.”
Please inform that 362 Indians have reached Bengaluru under ‘Operation Kaveri’. They were brought to India from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. 360 Indians were brought home on Wednesday and 246 on Thursday. About 3500 Indians were present in Sudan. Of these, 1360 have been brought back.
