Mumbai, Urmila Kori. Kumar Gandharva ji was a great emperor of music. He was a great ruler of music. He was a great yogi of music. Kumar Gandharva’s name is the talent, God does not give it to everyone like this. He was a great man. He was such a personality that whatever he did was of a high standard. Whatever I say about his contribution to music, it will be less. He re-created attraction towards saints like Kabir, Sur, Meera in public with his music. He also restored the relationship between classical music and folk music.
Kumar Gandharva was like our teacher: Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia
There are many memories associated with him. We have met at many concerts. Heard him perform. He was like our teacher. He used to learn by listening to them. Listening to him was like experiencing some supernatural power. I am lucky to have got a chance to spend a lot of time with him. Have spent a lot of time with him from concerts to his house. When there was a music program in Dewas, I used to stay at his house. At that time there were no hotels there, so he used to stay with them. Today so many hotels have been built, even today when I go there for a performance, I remember the atmosphere of his house.
Kumar Gandharva’s life itself is a great inspiration: Kalapini Komkali
His house was no less than a temple of music
His house was no less than a temple of music. There used to be only talk of music throughout the day. Tanpura used to be played from morning till night. He had established the importance of Tanpurs especially in his time. You could see this aspect at his house as well. Music used to echo even in the air of his house. Because of which nothing else came to mind except music. With this your music also became better.
