Kolkata: The Border Security Force on Thursday arrested a woman from North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. The woman was trying to smuggle 27 gold biscuits from Bangladesh. . According to information, the weight of gold recovered from the woman is more than 2 kg and its value is around Rs 1.30 crore. The 34-year-old smuggler has been identified as Manika Dhar. She is a resident of Chittagong district of Bangladesh.
According to the security forces, the woman had hidden the gold in a cloth and tied it around her waist. Women BSF personnel posted at the Indian check post received information that a Bangladeshi smuggler was about to cross the border with gold. After this, when the women soldiers reached here, searched the suspect, then gold biscuits were found from him. He hid them in his clothes.
Woman was smuggling for Rs 2000
During interrogation, the woman smuggler told that the gold biscuits were given to her by Suman Dhar, a resident of Chittagong, Bangladesh. He told that he was instructed to deliver this gold to an unknown person in Barasat, West Bengal. She also admitted that she was smuggling gold for the first time and was supposed to get Rs 2000 for this work.
BSF handed over the seized gold to the Custom Office
The smugglers and the seized gold have been handed over to Custom Office Petrapol for further action. In this matter, a BSF spokesperson in South Bengal Frontier appreciated the alertness of the jawans and expressed satisfaction over their success in catching the smugglers.
