Jammu And Kashmir Election: Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) President Ghulam Nabi Azad said on Sunday (April 30) that the time has come for assembly elections to be held in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that it is undemocratic to keep the people deprived of an elected government for a long time.
The former Union minister said the DPAP is a party that believes in democratic values and will ensure that pro-people initiatives are launched for the benefit of people from weaker sections of the society if voted to power.
Common people should be financially strong – Azad
Addressing a public meeting in Bandipora, he said that if DPAP comes to power, we will ensure that free electricity and other benefits are given to the poor so that their budget is not burdened. We will also work to create economic opportunities in various sectors including tourism, agriculture and horticulture so that common people are financially strong.
Bandipora given district status
Azad said that when he was the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, he had given district status to Bandipora, opened hospitals, colleges and built a long network of roads to benefit the people. However, he said that a long time has passed since then and development in the district has now come to a standstill and successive governments have ignored the growing infrastructural needs of the district.
I will not make false promises
Azad, a former Congress leader, said that like others, he would not make false promises and keep people in the dark. He said, I will make promises and fulfill them, while most politicians come to meet you and make many promises, which they do not fulfill.
