The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) will soon ask the government to clarify the situation regarding the conditions and legal status of the special audit of power subsidy given in Delhi during the years 2016 to 2022. Sources said that it has received a communication from the Delhi government to conduct a special audit of power subsidy, but the situation has not been clarified regarding the purpose of this exercise. According to the source, for preparing a special audit report, its objectives must be pre-determined.
The source said, “Apart from this, some matter related to the audit of power distribution companies is also under consideration in the Supreme Court. In such a situation, it is also necessary to see whether the special audit of power companies does not violate any direction of the court.
The Electricity Department of Delhi Government has directed to conduct a special audit of electricity subsidy through auditors attached to the Comptroller and Auditor General. Sources said that this work will start only after the provisions related to the special audit are clarified.
DERC may seek clarification from the government regarding the terms and conditions of the special audit. Apart from this, things can also be asked to be clarified on legal aspects.
