The Fact India: Delhi Police has registered an FIR against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh after the strictures of the Supreme Court. Two FIRs have been registered against Brij Bhushan at Delhi’s Connaught Place Police Station on late Friday night. Brij Bhushan has been booked under the POCSO Act for sexually abusing a minor wrestler. At the same time, the second FIR has been registered on the charges of sexual exploitation of other six female wrestlers.
On the other hand, WFI President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh said that I have full faith in the judiciary. I am not running anywhere, I am in my house. I will cooperate with Delhi Police. Whatever is the decision of the Supreme Court, I will follow it. Earlier, Brij Bhushan Sharan had said that if the wrestlers protesting accept their resignation, then I will give it. But, I will not give as a criminal. Now they will say that their tenure is over, what will happen with their resignation. If these players get up from the dharna and go back home, do their practice, then I will send their resignation.
On Friday, a hearing was held in the Supreme Court on the petition of seven female wrestlers including a minor. During this, the Supreme Court strictly asked the Delhi Police that even after the complaint of sexual exploitation, why no FIR was lodged against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. On this, the Delhi Police asked the Supreme Court to register an FIR today itself (Friday). After this, the senior officers of Delhi Police kept brainstorming till late night as to under which sections a case should be registered against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
Let us tell you that on April 21, seven female wrestlers, including a minor, had complained of sexual exploitation against WFI President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. When the case was not registered, the wrestlers filed a petition in the Supreme Court. During the hearing, senior advocate Kapil Sibal, on behalf of the wrestlers, said in the court that security should be provided to the women wrestlers and the retired judge should supervise the case. On this plea, the court has ordered the Delhi Police to provide security. The court has asked the police to file an affidavit by next Friday. It has to be told what steps he took. The next hearing will be on May 17.
