The Fact India: Chardham Yatra has been suspended due to bad weather. There is heavy snowfall in Badrinath and Kedarnath. Due to rain in low-lying areas, huge stones have accumulated on the roads. The administration is appealing to the pilgrims coming to Chardham to stay in nearby cities. Those who have booked online for night stay are allowed to proceed towards Rudraprayag but those who have not booked. They have been asked to remain in Srinagar only.
SHO Srinagar, Ravi Saini said that in Srinagar Garhwal police have set up checking points near NIT Uttarakhand and near Badrinath bus stand where Chardham Yatris are being stopped. Police say that there are adequate arrangements for stay in Srinagar. Passengers will not have any kind of problem. Once the weather clears up, everyone can continue their journey.
Earlier on Saturday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had advised pilgrims to plan their pilgrimage only after passing all medical tests, including those for COVID-19. The Chief Minister said that an SOP has been issued by the State Government and those undertaking the pilgrimage this year need to follow it.
Let us inform that on Thursday morning the doors of Badrinath Dham opened for the pilgrims. The first puja was performed in the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The portals of Badrinath Dham opened amid the chanting of Vedic verses. Thousands of devotees were present to witness the formal inauguration of the holy temple. The process of opening the doors started at 4 am on Thursday. Officials said that Kuber-ji, Shri Uddhav-ji and Gadu Ghada were brought into the temple premises from the south gate.
