BJP bandh in seven districts of West Bengal, allegations of alleged atrocities on police, clash between BJP and TMC workers
The Fact India: BJP has called for a bandh in seven districts of West Bengal. This prison is in the northern districts of West Bengal. The BJP has called a bandh from 6 am to 6 pm on Friday against the alleged atrocities of the Bengal Police. During this bandh, a clash broke out between BJP and TMC workers in Coochbehar district. Stones were thrown at several government buses. BJP workers sat on a dharna in front of the bus depot. Police have detained several BJP workers in Cooch Behar and North Dinajpur districts.
BJP worker Mrityunjay Barman was killed in North Dinajpur on Wednesday night. The BJP has alleged that Mrityunjay died in police firing. BJP MP Debashree Chowdhary has said that the police had come to arrest BJP’s Panchayat Samiti member Bishnu Barman. During this, the policemen shot Bishnu’s nephew Mrityunjay, killing him. On the other hand, TMC has accused BJP of spoiling the atmosphere in West Bengal. North Bengal comprises the districts of Darjeeling, Cooch Behar, Malda, Jalpaiguri, Alipurdaur, North Dinajpur and South Dinajpur. BJP has called bandh in these 7 districts only.
The ruckus started after the death of a minor Dalit girl in Kaliyaganj last week. The mob had set the police station on fire. The protesters claimed that the girl was murdered after being raped. However, this was not confirmed in the postmortem report. The administration has stopped internet service in Kaliaganj by imposing section 144 till 30th April.
