Delhi MCD Election 2022: After Uttar Pradesh, now ‘Power of Purvanchalis’ is going on in Delhi as well. Political parties are trying to woo the Purvanchalis for the municipal elections. Whether it is BJP or Congress or Aam Aadmi Party… everyone is trying to pull Purvanchalis towards them. That is because Purvanchali is a big vote bank in MCD elections.
Such people living in Eastern UP, Bihar and Jharkhand, who speak Bhojpuri are considered Purvanchali. These people are settled in Delhi. It is estimated that one-third of the 1.46 crore voters in the MCD elections are Purvanchalis. Means, about 50 lakh voters are Purvanchali. It is believed that there are Purvanchali voters in every assembly and that is the reason why they are being wooed.
Voting for the Municipal Corporation elections in Delhi is to be held on December 4. The results will come on 7 December. This time there are 250 wards, because now all the three municipal corporations have become one. In 2012, the Municipal Corporation was divided into three parts and a total of 272 wards were created. But the Modi government has again united all three.
BJP fielded 50 Purvanchali candidates
Delhi BJP President Adesh Gupta said that around 50 Purvanchali candidates have been fielded for the MCD elections. He claimed that Purvanchali is with him.
On Monday, BJP national president JP Nadda spoke with the members of the Chhath Puja committee and asked them to bless them in the MCD elections. Nadda’s childhood was spent in Patna only. He said that he used to taste Thekua on every Chhath and will again taste the Prasad of Chhath on 4th December.
Delhi BJP leaders estimate that Purvanchali voters are settled in illegal colonies and slums and decide the fate of candidates in 75 to 80 wards of the MCD’s 250.
Manoj Tiwari, Ravi Kishan and Dinesh Yadav Nirhua are also included in the list of BJP’s star campaigners for the MCD elections. All three are Purvanchali.
AAP also fielded 40-50 candidates
Aam Aadmi Party MLA and MCD election in-charge Durgesh Pathak says that his party has given a lot of respect to Purvanchalis. He told that 40 to 50 Purvanchali candidates have been fielded in this election.
Pathak said, the Kejriwal government has given a lot of respect to the Purvanchali voters. He claimed that when the Aam Aadmi Party government came, there were only 50-60 Chhath Ghats, but now there are around 1200 Ghats. This year Chhath Puja was also celebrated on a large scale.
Regarding the problems of Purvanchalis, Pathak claimed that they live in illegal colonies, where there is a lot of filth. They alleged that if they want to get something done in their homes, they have to pay bribe to the officials. Pathak says that there are about 10,000 Purvanchali voters in every assembly of Delhi.
Congress claims – we raised the issues of Purvanchalis
Delhi Congress President Anil Kumar claimed that his party has been at the forefront in raising the issues of Purvanchalis.
Anil Kumar said that the Congress will raise their issues further, as it has always been doing. And they will be reminded how the BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party have failed to find solutions to their problems.
However, the Congress suffered a major setback on Sunday when senior party leader and Mahabal Mishra, who hails from Purvanchal Bankground, joined the Aam Aadmi Party. Welcoming him, CM Arvind Kejriwal described Mahabal Mishra as a big leader of Purvanchal community in Delhi.
