Who built the Bada Imambara and when?
The Bada Imambara of Lakhu was built by Asaf-ud-Daula in 1784 under the Famine Relief Project. This huge domed hall is 50 meters long and 15 meters high. This huge domed building of Iranian construction style was built in memory of the martyrdom of Hussein Ali. It is said that it cost 5 to 10 lakh rupees at that time to make it. Not only this, even after the completion of this building, the Nawab used to spend 4 to 5 lakh rupees annually on its decoration.
Features of Bada Imambara
To reach the roof of the building, there are 84 steps which go through such a way which may confuse an unknown person so that the unwanted person wanders in it and cannot get out. That is why it is also known as Labyrinth. The design and workmanship of the building is superb. Such windows have been made in the building where they can be seen by every person entering through the main gates, while the person sitting in the window cannot be seen by him. The walls have been made with this technique so that even if someone talks in a whisper, that voice can be heard clearly even at a distance.
