Giving information in this regard, Punjab State Mining and Geology and Water Resources Minister Harjot Singh Bains said that action was taken against Puneet Sharma in view of the complaints and reports of illegal mining in the area under him. Despite the prohibition of mining during the rainy season, complaints of mining during night time were received in Kheda Kalmot and other areas of Rupnagar district.
Puneet Sharma Executive Engineer, Drainage and Mining Division, Rupnagar, in the course of his duty, did not send notices on time to the low capacity bridges falling under the district, which was not fit for all vehicles.
He said that even the requisite action was not taken by the officer to meet the target of justified mining in Rupnagar district, due to which the government suffered financial loss and common people suffered.
Minister Bains said that the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government would not allow anyone to do illegal mining in the state and any officer found indulging in illegal mining activities would not be spared. He told the officials of the Mining Department in strict words that strict action would be taken immediately against the officer who did any kind of negligence.
