Banned extremist organizations United Liberation Front of Assam (Independent) and Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagalim (Khaplang) have called for a complete boycott of India’s 75th Independence Day celebrations in five northeastern states. The organizations have also called for a general strike in five northeastern states – Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura and Meghalaya.
In a joint statement, the militant outfits asked people at all levels not to participate in fake Independence Day activities.
“Our protest to boycott the fake Independence Day of Colonial India will be a complete shutdown on August 15 from 12 am to 6:00 pm,” the statement said.
He said that the COVID-19 pandemic has stunted the socio-economic development of the entire world as well as the West-South East Asian region and thousands of indigenous farming families have lost their homes due to floods and landslides.
The statement said that, “After 75 years of so-called independence, the indigenous people are suffering from debt, GST, rising prices of essential commodities and hundreds of other problems. For a state this is unfair, historically irrelevant and useless. , which is unable to cope with the suffering people in such times of declining standard of living.”
ULFA-I, which has extended the unilateral ceasefire twice during the last one year.
